Before the new Arizona Cardinals Stadium was completed, going to a football game had never been so architecturally interesting. Who knew that an architectural wonder would bring artists and fans together in the desert? The University of Phoenix Stadium, completed just last year, takes its design elements from the ground it rose out of. The shape itself pays homage to the barrel cactus, found just about everywhere you look here in the desert. This futuristic structure is comprised of metal and glass panels enclosing 1.7million square-feet of space. The stadium is an engineering marvel. With a totally retractable roof that allows light to fill the space when closed and a retractable playing field as well, the Valley of the Sun now has one more amazing sports facility to add to its list. Architect Peter Eisenman, in conjunction with HOK Sport, HUNT Construction Group, and Urban Earth Design, designed the structure to allow the 63,400 football fans to feel comfortable and inspired. From afar, one can see this magnificent structure rising out of the desert, calling to sports fans everywhere while demanding attention from the world'€™s engineers and architects.
