Family Ties

When I had my son, Spencer, I began to think a lot about my own mom. I always appreciated her, but my new life on the other side of parenting put her role into perspective.

Moms play so many parts in our lives and guide us through our most important moments. They arranged sports, took us to school, booked medical appointments, made us go shopping, set up vacations. Later in life, they help us plan weddings and welcome grandchildren, beginning the role reversal as we slowly take on responsibilities they let go of.

The most life-changing and memorable moments we experience are with our families, and many of them are celebrated in May. It’s a month for gathering with relatives, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, weddings. It’s an important time to step back, set aside distractions and spend time with those nearest and dearest—especially our moms.

I’d like to thank my mother for all her encouragement and support, and hope you spend time this May with those who helped guide you.
