For Dennis and Maggie Young, securing a jaw-dropping view didn’t mean high-tailing it to the mountains. It meant perching 14 stories above it all in Central Phoenix.

“You guys bought a view with some rooms wrapped around it.”
That’s what Maggie Young fondly recalls her architect, Kristine Woolsey of Woolsey Studio, declaring when she first saw the corner-unit condominium the Youngs wanted to remodel. Not that it surprised Woolsey, who is both a friend of the Youngs and was also the architect of their previous home. After all, living in places that engage with the outside is something of a trend for this couple. Their last residence, which had virtually no walls inside its industrial-like environs, employed a 20-foot-tall window system along its southern wall. Two homes before that, they lived on a mountainside and contemplated the rocky outdoors.
