So without further ado, I will take this month’s column to praise Coronado Café, a cozy gem in a converted house (as is the Phoenix standard). The restaurant serves food worthy of the trendiest feasting spot but, as far as I can tell, has received far less recognition for it. Looking for a quaint and quiet Valentine’s Day niche for two? This is the one.
Allow me to whet your appetite by suggesting the brie-and-lavash starter. The crisp lavash is topped with a generous portion of imported brie and drizzled with juicy pomegranates and pears. The gorgonzola bruschetta capped with pine nuts, sun-dried and fresh tomatoes, and kalamata olives was likewise incredible. And if we want to talk about memorable, we must mention the gorgonzola salad, with candied walnuts, red onions and apples and a divine herb-balsamic vinaigrette.
