One Sedona retreat redefines the concept of a thoughtful home.

He’s a retired businessman-turned-artist with a passion for college football. She’s a meditation expert who grew up without television and lived in a Zen Buddhist monastery for nearly two years. So how do Martin Birrittella and Sarah McLean attempt to design a custom home together? Well, McLean would argue that those descriptions are more superficial than they might seem. “We’re constantly focused on the outward,” she says of people in general, “[but] to more fully express ourselves, we have to really have our point of reference be one of the internal expression of our soul or spirit.”
