Southwestern Gist, Midwestern Twist

AS THE FIRST NEW COURSE TO OPEN IN ARIZONA THIS YEAR, THE
LEHMAN DESIGN GROUP’S ENCANTERRA COUNTRY CLUB IN QUEEN
CREEK SERVES AS A REMINDER THAT YOU CAN TAKE A MAN OUT OF THE MIDWEST, BUT YOU CAN’T TAKE THE MIDWEST OUT OF THE MAN.

Story by Nichole Brophy

This past january, an exceptional classic-core-golf-style layout added its likeness to Arizona’s already above-par course selection. Looking at it now, you’d never guess that the 7,200 yards of side-by-side fairways set in the private community that is Encanterra, Italian meaning “Enchanted Earth,” were once acres of corn-farming fields. However, the layout of the development’s “enchanted earth” allowed for a transformation into a par-72 course that boasts expansive fairways and the ultimate player privilege—being able to locate your ball on a course where strategy is key.
